From “Search” to “Agents“
I talked about big sites. The most critical and often forgotten topics to optimize for AI engines are around technical SEO.
From “HTML Optimization” to “Accessibility Tree”
I made a test. I removed the HTML tag “button“ from a random product page on Amazon:
Instead of <button> I used the tag <span>
A simple HTML tag change can remove functionality
What happens is that in the Accessibility Tree you can view on Chrome, the button was not identified as such. The button was not a button anymore:

For a human, that button is still a button and we will treat it as such. That button will trigger the purchase.
For agents, that button won’t be a button. It will be ignored as an action trigger. The agents, won’t be able to even trigger a purchase because it does not understand that the <span> tag, is in fact a button.
We do not want to make agents life difficult. I set back the <button> HTML tag. Then in the Accessibility Tree, the button was visible as such.
So there you go, something we did not even consider anymore for “traditional SEO“ all of the sudden becomes critical for agentic search.
