SEO tools cannot possibly process as much data as Google does, so we always have missing keywords on our regular research.
There is one layer deeper when it comes to topic research and that is the good old Google Autosuggest:

Zero-Volume?
The premise:
16.4 billion searches on Google every day, for sure there is someone looking for my stuff
SEO tools provide an estimation of the “search volume“, it is not an accurate number.
There are many topics that are not even logged in SEO tools but have a significant volume.
The rule is simple: if it appears on Google Autosuggest, there is a niche market for it.
Example of a keyword that has definitely market yet has no search volume data on Ahrefs
Download The Google Sheet
It looks like this, simple:
Group: how the keyword is labeled (question, number, preposition, alphabetical, etc).
Suggestion: the actual query
Keyword: the main keyword
Language: main language logged for that query (you can change it at the top)
Location: where the autosuggest gets triggered
Search Volume: data coming from Ahrefs

Once you copied into your own account you will see the sample I made with the keyword “technical SEO“.
Add any keyword (1-2 words max for best performance)
Click the button “Search“
Once all keywords are loaded you will get a little message:
Click the button “Get Data“:
This will get you the topics with logged search volume on Ahrefs. The ones that return zero ‘0’ are gems that you would not have found with any SEO tool.
API Connection with Ahrefs
To collect all data automatically I added a function in the script to collect all data straight from the Ahrefs API:
Adapt the script to your liking using any AI tool. I used Gemini.

Caveats:
API limitations: This sheet uses quite a bit of API calls, so be careful your limits might hit rapidly.
Alternative: upload all keywords from the sheet in Ahrefs [Keyword Research] > You get the a similar sheet with volume data without consuming a single API call
